Kenyon (9-1-0 / 2-1-0) got back to winning ways with 6-1 defeat of Wooster (2-9-1 / 0-3-0), while Allegheny (3-6-2 / 2-0-1) continued their strong NCAC play with an important win over Denison (9-1-1 / 1-1-1)
The Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan (9-2-2 / 2-0-1) defeated Wittenberg (3-8-2 / 0-3-0) by a score of 6-0.

Conference unbeatens Capital (4-7-1 / 2-0-1) and Ohio Northern (11-3-0 / 3-0-0) are on the brink of an outright battle for the top spot Saturday in Columbus, pending the outcome of match-ups this evening against Wilmington for the Crusaders and Otterbein for the Polar Bears. Capital remains an intriguing story with its 2-0-1 league mark despite being 4-7-1 overall, as their last two contests have gone into extra sessions.
Preseason favorite John Carroll (8-3-1 / 3-1-0) is only a match behind in the loss column. They’ve won three straight after the league-opening loss in Ada to ONU and have a key home date Saturday against fourth-place Marietta (7-6-0 / 2-1-0).

This weekend’s doubleheader between Ohio Northern (8-5-2 / 4-0-0) and Capital (8-4-0 / 4-0-0) could have outright first place implications on the line on both sides. The Crusaders have out-scored league opponents 17-3 in four matches, while the Polar Bears are in the midst of five successive wins going into Saturday’s showdown at Ada.
Baldwin Wallace (9-4-2 / 3-1-0), who still has the conference co-leaders ahead on its schedule, is just a match out of first. Wilmington (8-5-0 overall), Otterbein (6-6-0) and Heidelberg (7-7-0)are tied for fourth at 2-2.

Three programs have yet to suffer a loss in conference action going into the week. Hanover (8-6-0 overall), at 4-0-0, heads the list, with Rose-Hulman (7-2-3) and Transylvania (5-2-5) close behind at 2-0-1. The Fightin’ Engineers went into a tricky home test this evening against fellow top five member Franklin (5-6-1), while the Panthers travel to Anderson (2-7-3) Saturday, and the Pioneers have road trips to Earlham (5-5-0) tonight and go to Defiance (4-8-0) this weekend.
The chase for the top six tournament slots continues to be a wild one. Following the three unbeatens, Franklin and Earlham stood 2-1-0, while Anderson (1-1-1) and Manchester University (1-2-1) were lurking nearby.

The duo of Hanover (8-4-0 overall) and Franklin (11-1-0) continue to lead the way, sporting 4-0-0 and 3-0-0 marks, respectively. A showdown Tuesday, October 20, looms at Hanover, but each side could face tests this week with Hanover going to Mount St. Joseph (7-4-1) tonight and hosting a vastly improved Anderson side (6-4-0) Saturday, and the Grizzlies hosting a Bluffton team (5-7-0 / 1-2-0) this weekend that has played some close-knit contests against upper division foes.
A critical clash in North Manchester, Indiana is on the books today, with Bluffton and the Spartans (3-7-1 / 1-1-1) meeting up and being separated by just a match for the sixth and final league tournament slot. AU and MSJ, each sitting 2-1-0, are in the middle of the HCAC mix along with Transylvania (4-6-2 / 2-1-1).

The No. 14 NSCAA and No. 20 D3Soccer.com Duhawks of Loras (8-3-1 / 4-0-0) have the pedal down, registering four shutouts in as many conference games. A key conference showdown looms Saturday against fellow tri-unbeaten Luther College at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque. Reigning league defensive Player of the Week Jacob Peterson has been a wall in net, allowing just a .842 goals-against average.
The Norse (7-3-3 overall), sitting at 2-0-1 in the conference, also had a difficult task this evening against University of Dubuque goalkeeper Riley Jensen. The IIAC’s leader in goals against average (.843) has surrendered only three goals in his last six appearances. UD (9-2-1) trails crosstown rival Luther by just a half-game in the conference standings.

The logjam atop the conference standings continues with four schools separated by just one match. No. 21 NSCAA Luther College (11-1-0 / 3-0-0) and Central College (8-3-1 / 2-0-1) are the only remaining unbeaten, while Coe (12-1-0 / 2-1-0), one of the surprises not only in the conference but also the Central Region, and Wartburg (8-4-1 / 2-1-0) are lurking close behind.
A few battles within that top tier on the schedule this week. Perennial league power Loras (6-4-2 overall), sitting 1-1-1, hosted Coe this evening and Luther Saturday, while Wartburg travels to Central, and the Duhawks and Norse face off in Dubuque Saturday.
