Men

The Capital Crusaders (4-6-0 / 2-0-0) ended a four-match skid in high style last week, winning their league opener with a 3-1 decision over Mount Union (6-3-1 / 1-1-0), followed by a 1-0 victory over Muskingum (3-7-0 / 0-2-0) this week. They are tied for first with perennial league power Ohio Northern (8-2-0 / 2-0-0) who posted six goals combined in wins over John Carroll (6-3-1 / 1-1-0) and Wilmington (2-8-0 / 0-2-0). A logjam follows with six schools sitting at 1-1.

Athlete of the Week: F - Taylor Reasoner (Sr.) - Marietta

Women

The first week of conference play saw Wilmington (7-3-0 overall), Baldwin Wallace (6-3-1), Otterbein (5-4-0), Capital (5-4-0) and Ohio Northern (4-5-1) gain wins. The Quakers and Marietta scored all four of their goals over the final 40 minutes of play with WC taking a 3-1 decision; Otterbein’s 2-0 victory over Heidelberg (4-6-0) kept the Cardinals’ recent roll of five wins in six matches going; B-W rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to turn back Muskingum (1-8-1) 3-1; the Crusaders scored less than three minutes from the end to hold off Mount Union (4-6-0) 3-2; and ONU picked up a pair of goals from forward Rachel Weigman in a 3-0 victory over John Carroll (2-7-1).

Of the five tied for first, Wilmington and Ohio Northern go head-to-head on Wednesday.

Athlete of the Week: GK - Emily Tallmadge (Sr.) - Baldwin Wallace

HCAC

Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC)

Men

The standings have the early makings for a photo finish. Five schools are separated by just one match part way through the second week of play. Hanover (6-4-0 / 2-0-0) is the early clubhouse leader behind victories over Earlham (4-5-0 / 1-1-0) and Bluffton (0-9-0 / 0-1-0), as Brazilian netminder Rafael Di Maio didn’t surrender a goal in the 180-minute span.

The trio of preseason favorite and defending champion Rose-Hulman (6-2-2 overall), Franklin (4-5-1) and Transylvania (4-2-4) lurk just a half-match out of first at 1-0-0, while Manchester (4-4-2) and Earlham are each 1-1-0.

Player of the Week: F - Dominic Isadore (So.) - Hanover

Women

Anderson (9-1-0 / 2-0-0) and Franklin (6-3-0 / 2-0-0) moved through the second week of conference action unbeaten on the women’s side of the ledger with 1-win Hanover (6-4-0 / 1-0-0) playing Wednesday.

Allyson Salyer notched back-to-back shutouts of Bluffton (4-6-0 / 0-2-0) and Earlham (1-5-1 / 0-1-0) to guide the Ravens, while the Grizzlies thwarted Mt. St. Joseph (5-4-1 / 1-1-0) and Transylvania (2-6-2 / 0-1-1) by identical 1-0 scores with a pair of double overtime strikes from Maddie Fleet, the HCAC scoring leader, and with Kelsey Brunsman leading the way, and the Panthers rolled past Bluffton 5-0 as part of a week in which they tallied 12 goals.

Player of the Week: F - Helena Bomber (Jr.) - Rose-Hulman

IIAC

Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC)

Men

The men’s standings are murky (as are the women's) with Loras (6-3-1 / 2-0-0), Dubuque (7-2-1 / 2-0-0) and Luther (6-2-2 / 2-0-0) holding the lead going into week three. Beyond the three unbeatens, Central (4-6-0 / 1-1-0) and Wartburg (7-3-0 / 1-1-0) are just a match back in a tie for fourth. The group sitting atop the standings has done so in strong fashion with the Duhawks posting a pair of shutouts behind sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Peterson; the Norse piling up 11 goals; and the Spartans out-scoring the opposition 7-1.

A “Sort ‘Em Out Weekend” might be on the horizon, as Loras pays a visit to Wartburg for what, in recent history, has been one of the league’s top soccer clashes and Central is at UD on Saturday’s schedule.

Offensive Player of the Week: F - Zubeen Azari (Sr.) - Wartburg
Defensive Player of the Week: D - Kevin Krueger (Sr.) - Wartburg

Women

Luther (9-1-0 / 2-0-0) holds the conference lead into week three. The Norse women have been a tough puzzle to solve for opposing offenses with a pair of clean 90-minute sheets to their credit in wins over Buena Vista and Coe with junior goalkeeper Lauren Thormodsgard earning the honors in each case.

It appears as if the postseason tournament top seed and overall picture will be in question to the wire, as Loras (6-2-2 / 1-0-1) and Central (6-3-1 / 7-3-1), fresh off their tie last weekend, sit second behind Luther. Lurking just a match back in the loss column are the surprising Coe Kohawks (9-1-0 / 1-1-0) who upset perennial loop power Wartburg in their last IIAC outing, the Knights (5-4-1 / 1-1-0), and Dubuque (7-2-1 / 1-1-0). The Dutch offense will be on the radar for several conference schools after rolling up single-match records in shots (70), shots on goal (39) and shot margin (70-2) in a 13-0 defeat of non-conference foe Crown on Tuesday.

Offensive Player of the Week: F - Melisse Chasse (Jr.) - Luther
Defensive Player of the Week: GK - MJ Winterer (So.) - Coe
