Midwest Roundup - Week 7

Men

In midweek games, Kenyon (10-1-0 / 3-1-0) defeated Oberlin (7-5-1 / 1-3-0) by a 1-0 score. Ohio Wesleyan (10-2-2 / 3-0-1) cruised past Wooster (2-10-1 / 0-4-0) in a thumping 7-0 win. DePauw (9-1-2 / 4-0-0) outlasted Wittenberg (3-9-2 / 0-4-0) 3-2 in overtime. Allegheny (4-6-2 / 3-0-1) defeated Hiram (5-6-2 / 1-3-0) in a close 2-1 game. No one could break through between Denison (9-1-2 / 1-1-2) and Wabash (9-2-2 / 1-1-2) as the game ended scoreless after double overtime.

To round out the weekend, Oberlin (8-5-1 / 2-3-0) rebounded by defeating Wittenberg (3-10-2 / 0-5-0) in a 2-0 game. In a big game, Kenyon (11-1-0 / 4-1-0) handled Denison (9-2-2 / 1-2-2) in style with a 3-0 victory. Hiram (6-6-2 / 2-3-0) got a big conference win against Wabash (9-3-2 / 1-2-2), while Ohio Wesleyan (11-2-2 / 4-0-1) continued their offensive surge in 5-0 win over Allegheny (4-7-2 / 3-1-1). DePauw (9-1-3 / 4-0-1) dropped crucial points in a scoreless draw against Wooster (2-10-2 / 0-4-1).

The top four currently stand with DePauw and Ohio Wesleyan with 13 conference points. Kenyon has 12 points and Allegheny with 10 points. Wittenberg has been eliminated from top four contention. Wooster will be in need of serious help to stay alive in the race.

Women

Kicking off the week’s action, Allegheny (2-9-2 / 0-1-2) and Oberlin (5-5-2 / 0-2-1) couldn’t break free after double overtime in a 1-1 draw. Denison (12-1-0 / 4-0-0) defeated Wooster (9-4-1 / 2-2-0) in a 2-0 game while Kenyon (9-5-0 / 3-1-0) won 2-0 against Hiram (4-10-0 / 0-4-0). DePauw (7-5-1 / 4-0-0) continued their perfect conference run with 1-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan (1-10-1 / 0-3-0).

Wittenberg (7-4-2 / 2-1-1) defeated Oberlin (5-6-2 / 0-3-1) before Kenyon (10-5-0 / 4-1-0) broke through in a big win over Denison (12-2-0 / 4-1-0), picking up a 1-0 victory in double overtime. DePauw (8-5-1 / 5-0-0) survived Wooster (9-5-1 / 2-3-0) 2-1 in double overtime. Allegheny (3-9-2 / 1-1-2) got an important 1-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan (1-11-1 / 0-4-0)

DePauw sits atop the table with 15 points. Denison and Kenyon share second with 12 points. A tight race for fourth is shaping up between Wittenberg 7 points, Wooster 6 points, and Allegheny 5 points.

Men

Oglethorpe (9-2-2 / 4-0-1) and Rhodes (5-4-4 / 1-1-3) couldn’t break free in a 1-1 draw after double overtime. Birmingham-Southern (10-2-2 / 2-2-1) snatched victory over Centre (6-6-1 / 2-2-0) in a 1-0 double-overtime game that saw the Colonels finish the game with eight players. Berry (5-5-2 / 2-2-0) defeated Hendrix (2-8-3 / 1-3-1) comfortably by a 3-0 score. Millsaps (9-4-0 / 3-2-0) defeated Sewanee (5-9-1 / 1-4-0) in a close 3-2 contest.

Rhodes (6-4-4 / 2-1-3) defeated Berry (5-6-2 / 2-3-0) in a big 2-0 win. Millsaps (10-4-0 / 4-2-0) continued a good week with a win over Centre (6-7-1 / 2-3-0), tallying two goals in the final seven minutes to win 2-1. Birmingham-Southern (11-2-2 / 3-2-1) got the better of Sewanee (5-10-1 / 1-5-0) in a close 1-0 game. Oglethorpe (10-2-2 / 5-0-1) flexed their muscles against Hendrix (2-9-3 / 1-4-1) in a 6-0 victory.

The top of the table reads Oglethorpe with 16 points – the Stormy Petrels have officially clinched the regular season crown. Millsaps is in second with 12 points. Birmingham-Southern in third with 10 points and Rhodes in fourth with 9 points. Centre and Berry follow close behind with 6 points and a game in hand.

Women

On Friday, Rhodes (8-5-1 / 3-2-0) flew by Oglethorpe (2-11-0 / 0-5-0) in a 7-0 rout. Sewanee (8-3-2 / 4-0-1) took care of Millsaps (3-11-1 / 1-4-0) while Berry (9-2-1 / 4-0-0) separated itself from Hendrix (8-6-1 / 1-4-0) in a 2-1 victory. Centre (11-1-1 / 3-0-1) remained perfect by defeating Birmingham-Southern (7-6-0 / 2-3-0).

Then on Sunday, Sewanee (9-3-2 / 5-0-1) defeated Birmingham-Southern (7-7-0 / 2-4-0) by a big 3-0 score. Rhodes (9-5-1 / 4-2-0) got a huge 1-0 win over Berry (9-3-1 / 4-1-0). Hendrix (9-6-1 / 2-4-0) defeated Oglethorpe (2-12-0 / 0-6-0) 2-0 and Centre (12-1-1 / 4-0-1) took care of Millsaps (3-12-1 / 1-5-0) 4-0.

Sewanee sits at the top of the table with 16 points. Centre is close behind with 13 points and a game in hand. Berry shares third with Rhodes at 12 points, but a game in hand over the Lynx.

Men

LOTS of action in the SLIAC this week. Eureka (6-6-0 / 1-3-0) got their first conference win against Iowa Wesleyan (3-11-0 / 0-4-0) 3-1. Westminster (Mo.) (11-2-0 / 5-0-0) continues to lead the way, cruising past Webster (4-8-2 / 3-1-1) in a 7-0 thumping. Fontbonne (5-9-0 / 2-3-0) took care of Blackburn (4-7-2 / 0-3-0) in a close 1-0 game. Greenville (8-7-0 / 5-0-0) defeated Principia (1-7-1 / 1-2-1) by a 1-0 score while Spalding (7-7-0 / 4-1-0) took care of MacMurray (0-13-0 / 0-4-0). Blackburn (5-7-2/ 1-3-0) got back on track against Eureka (6-7-0 / 1-4-0) with a 1-0 win.

In a must-win for the Griffins, Fontbonne (6-9-0 / 3-3-0) defeated Spalding (7-8-0 / 4-2-0) in a close 2-1 contest. Westminster (Mo.) (12-2-0 / 6-0-0) continued their winning ways against Blackburn (5-8-2/ 1-4-0) by winning 2-0. Principia (2-7-1 / 2-2-1) got a solid win over Iowa Wesleyan (3-12-0 / 1-4-0) in a 8-0 score. Webster (5-8-2 / 4-1-1) took care of MacMurray (0-14-0 / 0-5-0) handily in a 9-0 win. Greenville (9-7-0 / 6-0-0) kept the race tight at the top with a 8-0 win over Eureka (6-8-0 / 1-5-0), ending the offensive week in the SLIAC with 52 total goals scored.

At the top of the table is Westminster (Mo.) and Greenville with 18 points. Webster is in third with 13points followed by Spalding with 12 points. MacMurray, Iowa Wesleyan, and Eureka have been eliminated from the top 4 race.

Women

Eureka (4-9-1 / 1-3-0) defeated Iowa Wesleyan (0-10-1 / 0-4-0) for the first conference win. Webster (9-4-0 / 5-0-0) defeated Westminster (Mo.) (6-5-1 / 4-1-0) in a close 2-1 contest. Fontbonne (6-8-0 / 2-3-0) handled Blackburn (4-8-0/ 0-3-0), Greenville (7-4-3 / 4-1-0) got a win over Principia (3-9-1 / 1-2-1), and Blackburn (5-8-0 / 1-3-0) got back on track with an impressive 8-0 win over Eureka (4-10-1 / 1-4-0). Spalding (7-3-2 / 4-0-1) took care of MacMurray (3-8-0 / 0-4-0) in a 4-0 home victory.

Westminster (Mo.) (7-5-1 / 5-1-0) rebounded and defeated Blackburn (5-9-0 / 1-4-0). Webster (10-4-0 / 6-0-0) cruised past MacMurray (3-9-0 / 0-5-0) 6-0. Principia (4-9-1 / 2-2-1) flashed moments of brilliance in a 9-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan (0-11-1 / 0-5-0). Fontbonne (7-8-0 / 3-3-0) got a 2-0 win over Spalding (7-4-2 / 4-1-1) handing them their first conference loss. Greenville (8-4-3 / 5-1-0) ran away from Eureka (4-11-1 / 1-5-0) 11-0.

Alone at the top is Webster with 18 points. Greenville and Westminster (Mo.) share second with 15 points. Spalding is clinging to fourth with 13 points with Fontbonne closing the gap at 12 points. MacMurray and Iowa Wesleyan have been eliminated from top four contention.
