Midwest Roundup - Week 3

This week we saw some teams take a dive into their conference play, while most are still finishing up their non-conference games. Let’s take a look at some of the action in various states:
Kentucky
Transylvania (5-0) remains undefeated and sits at the top of the HCAC. In a tough match against Centre, the Pioneers recorded their fourth shutout this season. In the early season, Matt Vogel and the Pioneers are backing up their HCAC preseason #1 ranking.
Illinois
University of Chicago (6-0) still dominates the UAA after week 3. The unbeaten Maroons earned the No. 3 spot in the initial D3soccer.com National Rankings. They shut out No. 25 Loras College and Aurora.
Ohio
Heidelberg (4-0) continued their strong start. The Student Princes shut out all of their opponents thus far including Mt. St. Joseph this week. Tougher tests are ahead if they want to continue their winning streak in their next match against Kenyon.
John Carroll are 6-0 for the first time since 2000. They are also ranked in the top 10 nationally for the first time in the program's history, sitting at No. 9 in the initial D3soccer.com poll. The Blue Streaks sealed a 5-4 victory in double overtime against Ohio Wesleyan and shut out Case Western Reserve .
Tennessee
Maryville (Tenn.) (6-0) had an exciting week. The Scots beat Pfeiffer 3-2 with minutes left in double overtime. They also beat Ferrum 2-1. With six wins, Maryville already boasts the third best start in school history.
Missouri
Washington U. (4-0-1) are now riding a four game winning streak. The Bears recorded their third shutout against Webster, then allowed just their second goal of the season in their 2-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan.
Fontbonne (4-2-1) picked up a solid win, 2-1, against Marian. Prior to this matchup, Marian had been dominating their opponents with a goal advantage of 23-1. After going nine straight games without a win to start 2016, Fontbonne look poised for a run in the SLIAC under first-year coach Donnie Alberty.
We are quickly approaching the middle of the regular season! As most teams head into conference play, we are looking forward to seeing the conference standings after the first set of games around the Midwest.
