Midwest Roundup - Week 3

Week three in NCAA Division III soccer was another great one! Each state had teams turn a corner with great wins and also some unforeseen results around the region. Some early season results are peppering a lot of team’s hopes in their non-conference schedule.
ILLINOIS
Knox College (4-2-0) had a very impressive weekend at the 30th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic in Danville, KY. The Prairie Fire knocked off #15 ranked Centre College on Friday night 2-1 and then completed the road trip with a dramatic overtime win over Spalding University. First year head coach, Brian O’Connor and his team will continue their road stint at Wartburg College with five more away games to follow before returning home.
OHIO
John Carroll University (6-0-0) stayed undefeated after coming away with a hard fought 1-0 victory on the road at Denison University. The Blue Streaks controlled the shot count on the statistics sheet, and managed to get a breakthrough, game-winning goal in the 62nd minute to stay perfect on the year.
Kenyon College (5-1-0) extended their winning streak to four games after going undefeated at the 30th annual Bob Allen Classic in Danville, KY. The Lords came away with two clean sheet wins over Spalding University and #15 Centre College on the weekend. Coach Brown’s side will hit the road again to face Mariette College on Wednesday and hope to maintain their #6 ranking in the country.
INDIANA
Rose-Hulman (5-0-0) is the only undefeated team in DIII in Indiana left after defeating Millikin 2-1 at home. The Fighting Engineers have only given up two goals in five games, which is making a defensive statement in the region. Coach Helliwell’s side will travel to DePauw University on Wednesday and round out the week at Ohio Northern University for two very tough roads tests for the Fighting Engineers.
IOWA
Central College (7-0-0) continued their winning streak knocking off instate competitor, Cornell, and capped off the weekend with a 4-3 victory over Gustavus Adolphus. Coach Laidlaw and the Dutch have had great success with scoring goals to remain unbeaten in the 2019 campaign. The high scoring Dutch return to action this week against a very hot Knox College side who will also be hoping to extend their winning streak.
MICHIGAN
Adrian College (5-0-0) extended their best start in program history by defeating Michigan-Dearborn over the weekend at home 2-1. Coach McDonald’s team will continue their home campaign with three more games over the next week playing three games in four days. The Bulldogs received votes last week and hope to continue their momentum into the tough week ahead.
